ASH FLAT - The mother of a boy killed in West Memphis's 1993 triple murder pleaded innocent to charges she pointed a rifle at men who refused to lay carpeting at her home because the site wasn't prepared.
Melissa Byers, 38, of Cherokee Village entered her plea Tuesday in Sharp County Circuit Court. She is charged with aggravated assault.
Police said she pointed the gun at two employees of Karpet Kountry of Highland as they left her home Aug. 28.
Her son, Christopher, and two other 8-year-olds were killed in May 1993. Three teenagers were convicted in the murders, including Damien Echols, who was sentenced to death.
Mrs. Byers and her husband, John Mark Byers, 38, also face theft and burglary charges next month in the July 1994 break-in at a Cherokee Village home. The two are accused of stealing more than $20,000 worth of items and selling them at pawnshops.
