PARIS, Texas - A teenager who has profound mental disabilities was sentenced to 100 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in a sex abuse case involving his 6-year-old neighbor. Aaron Hart, 18, of Paris, was arrested and charged after a neighbor found him fondling her stepson in September. The teen pleaded guilty to five counts, including aggravated sexual assault and indecency by contact, and a jury decided his punishment. Lamar County Judge Eric Clifford decided to stack the sentences against Hart after jurors settled on two five-year terms and three 30-year terms, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday. His fondling a child should not be overlooked because he is retarded, nor should he be sentenced to 100 years in prison because he does not know right from wrong. It sickens me that James Martin, who molested, not fondled, two of his step children served a brief sentence in prison and is now free to collect underage "friends" on the internet. Our system is biased. Wolf THIS CASE CRIES OUT FOR JUSTICE!

I wonder how they decided he was fit to stand trial? Why didn't someone suggest he have a psychological evaluation? Did his defense attorneys get their degrees online or something? He would no doubt want to experiment with children around 'his own' age, as opposed to with an adult. Id say this may be why they locked him up? However the court surely could have placed this teen in a home where he could receive the care and support required for this type of disability. IMO the court ignored this option and chose to treat him as a 'full' functioning adult. What about the treatment he will receive whilst in prison? They have just handed a fresh young 8 year old child to a bunch of adult men to 'play' with. How traumatic will that be for him? Its outright hypocritical.

Its not just an Arkansas issue,these cases are all over the place and they just seem to keep getting worse because most people arent willing to become involved and to stand up for whats right in this country.They have the atitude of "what can I do" or "im sure someone will do something" ,when i hear statements like that I find myself thinking well if not you then who? If you know about a problem and allow it to continue without doing something to fix it then you become part of that problem. Ok jumping off my soapbox.... Tara
